Wave Race 64

Game Review / Hints

| Hints | Courses | Dolphin | Stunts | Difficulty Levels |

Wave Race 64 was a good game, not my favorite, but definitely still good. I enjoyed playing it and actually mastered quite quickly. After mastering it, it becomes fun to ram the other computer players instead of outright racing!

A Couple Quick Hints!

To go, you can hold the Z button(The Trigger) or the a button
Go on the side the arrow is pointing at, it increases your max. speed if you're not at max speed.
If you miss the arrow, you go down to the lowest max speed, and you can only miss 4 and still qualify. On the fifth strike, you're out.
Occasionally skip arrows on the last lap to pass a player just before the finish line.
If you fall, hold B (break) and you will get back up into the watercraft quicker.

The Courses

Sunny Beach

It's the first and rather easy course. It's just a loop, or oval. No big deal. While playing on hard, watch out for spikes in the water.

Sunset Bay

This course is in the shape of an L. There's a ramp, but don't do any tricks, it slows you down. You can turn while in the air so when you hit the water, you go in that direction. In the beginning, there's a sharp turn. Remember, the more difficult the level it's on, the more arrows and obstacles there'll be.

Drake Lake

This is course number 3 and relatively simple. When you get to the island, I prefer to go left, but it's your choice. Don't go on the island though and go around the weeds. They slow you down. In normal, you can avoid going through the posts at the end, but on hard/expert/reverse, you have to go through, or pay the price.

Marine Fortress

In this course, on normal it's just follow the course. Watch out for trash in the water. On hard and above, not Reverse, there's a jump in the very beginning over the wall with the help of the waves. On the second lap, a door will open and reveal a shortcut.

Port Blue

On this course during normal, just follow the route. On hard, you can go the normal way, right, or the hard way, left. There's sharp turns if you go left, but it's quicker. Remember what I said earlier in tips. On Expert, you don't have a choice but to go the hard way, so you better get used to it.

Twilight City

On Twilight City at the very beginning there's a ramp. Go over it and you will go over the wall and there will be a tunnel in front of you. Go through and you just took a shortcut. On Expert you must go over the ramp and do a dive so you will go under the wall.

Glacier Coast

On glacier Coast when you come to the glacier you got the left where there will be a opening and then go hard right. It will allow you to get the arrow without falling over but make sure you don't go to hard or else you will run in to the wall. If you hold right your guy (or girl) will fall off when you get back on water. To avoid this you must push yuor control stick to the left just before you hit water. Try not to hit the ice balls.

Southern Island

The last course course really isn't all that hard. Since it's the last course, I'll only say this. The water drops for the second and third lap.

Ride the Dolphin

Did you ever want to ride the dolphin? Well here's how. You have to do Stunt Mode in Dolphin Park. Now for the hard part. You have to do all of the tricks and I mean everything including standing & riding backwords. You don't have to do this every single time you turn the game back on. It saves that you did that. After you complete those when you chose your rider hold down while you're pressing A. Then go to Championship, Normal, Warmup. It only works on warmup so DON'T TRY TO RACE WITH IT.

Stunts

Front Flip ~ Move Joystick up and then down
Barrel Roll(left) ~ Move Joystick right on the ramp and then left
Barrel Roll(right) ~ Move Joystick left on the ramp and then right
Hand Stand ~ Release throttle, move Joystick up, down, and then hold up
Ride Backwords ~ Release throttle, move joystick clockwise, then hold down
Stand Up ~ Release throttle, Move Joystick counter-clockwise. Hold up to stay Standing. Hold down to do a backflip onto the watercraft.
Dive ~ Hold up on ramp/wave, once airborn, move joystick down and hold.

You may fall off often when doing these tricks!

Levels of Difficulty

On Normal, everything is just plain old simple.

On Hard they add a little more obstacles, there's more arrows, and the computer plays harder than on Normal.

On Expert they add a little more obstacle, there's more arrows, and the computer plays a little harder than Hard.

On Reverse You play the same exact thing as Expert except for that you go backwards through the race and they play harder.
