Super Smash Brothers Melee

Game Review / Hints

| Unlock Characters | Unlock Levels | Unlock Other | Hints and Cheats | Trophies | Unlock Trophies | Koopa Kid (rumor?) |

With classic players, new faces, and action around every corner, Super Smash Brothers: Melee is one of Nintendo’s best action games ever. The craziest four player game ever for Nintendo 64 is now a “new and improved” game on Gamecube, and better than it ever was. Now there’s more levels to choose from, more of a challenge to beat, and the all new All-Star and Adventure modes for 1 player to have even more fun!

Quick General Hints!

  • Throw fans rather than fighting with them. They’re more effective that way and make your enemies fly further. Also, you’re doing a good amount of damage to your enemy but you aren’t in danger yourself like you would be if you were battling up close. (Also throw other items that seem useless, like sabers or guns, and it does the same thing practically.)
  • Never stop moving. When you stop to pick up an item, either jump or run right away or the computers will get you if they’re set at high levels or you’re playing it on Hardest.
  • For the sandbag, to get the trophy just use Fox McCloud and fire his gun to get sandbags percent up. Then have a blast firing him about 1000m at the least if you do it right. There are also other characters that can smash sandbag pretty far; you just have to find the move that works the best with them. Experiment.
  • When playing on the battlefield to beat 100 wire figures or more, find someone you’re good at and stick with them. Then use one move repeatedly so you master it, so you can kill them easily. For example, Link’s up attack spins his sword around, and kills the wire frames on the first hit almost all the time. In addition, if you find the screw attack, don’t get rid of it.
  • Use Smash Attacks whenever you can. To do this, you can use the C-joystick or the normal joystick. Jerk the joystick in the direction of the smash attack(each direction is a different attack) and then press A (green). You can hold the A button to charge the attack to hit with much more power. This is an absolute must on taking anyone who knows what they are doing.

Hints & Cheats & Misc.

  • Super Shield: Press L or R lightly a larger shield that lasts longer will come up, but be warned, it's weaker.
  • Start as Sheik: Choose Zelda on the character screen and make sure you keep the A button pressed until the match begins.
  • StarFox Squad: Play as Fox on any Star Fox Level. In a safe location(don't want to be attacked) move the joystick left and right repeatedly. Fox will then call his Squadron. This will only work once per play.
  • Samus's Secret Throw: Rapidly press Z to extend her grappling hook but don't start the shield. Rotate the control pad counter-clockwise as you are pressing Z. This extends it three times farther and will stay this way until KOd. By holding L, it will home in on a person, but you must press A or Z for it to grab them.
  • Alternate music: Hold L or R until the match begins when selecting the stage(only applies to specefic stages).
  • Earn More Coins: The coins are based off the number of smash attacks you do, so do a couple at the end of each level of adventure or be smash happy in VS matches - the latter is much more fun ;-)

I'm pretty sure this is a rumor and is NOT true, but you never know and I'm not sure. If you beat Classic, Adventure, All-Star, and Event Matches on Very Hard with a single person, in addition to having all the trophies, 100 man melee, 3 guys on cruel melee, etc. etc. Basically beat the game entirely with one character and you can get Koopa Kid (assuming the rumor is true, which I severely doubt) He's supposedly similar to Bowser, except weaker and much faster. Even if it's false, it's still cool to be able to say, "Hey, look what I just did... Beat that!" Definitely not something for the faint-hearted or who have lives. Until someone sends me a picture (submit a form under contact me or email) with proof, I'm going to say it's just a rumor and does not exist. Happy Playing!
