Myths

A long time ago, Zeus fell in love with a mortal woman named Callisto, who was a huntress. Hera, the wife of Zeus, got jealous at Callisto, so she changed Callisto into a large bear. In a forest one day, Callisto 's son Arcas came across a gigantic bear. The bear immediately started to run straight toward him, and Arcas became very scared. Since he didn't know that the bear was his mother, Arcas took out his javelin to kill the bear. Zeus saw what was about to happen, but even Zeus couldn't undo Hera's spell. The only thing left to do was to change Arcas into a smaller bear like Callisto. So they could be together safely, and so they could be immortal, Zeus grabbed both bears by their tails, and swung them around in circles, and threw them into the sky. All of the swinging stretched out their tails. Hera moved them to a part of the sky that never sets. Callisto and Arcas now are always looking down on Earth always, enduring a weariness and can not rest from it until the world dies.
