Asteriod Belt

Facts and Pictures

Asteroids are between Mars and Jupiter which seperates the gas giants and the small rocky planets. Asteroids are sometimes called minor planets because they're so small. Asteroids come in many different shapes and sizes. Sometimes asteroids come out of the asteroid belt and hit Earth. Asteroids are then known as meteorites. Meteoroids are only when they reach the atmosphere. Asteroids are made from what's left of the solar system when it was made. They also could be remains of a planet that had a large collision long ago. Or they all never succeeded in coming together and being a planet but that object wouldn't even have our moon's radius. One theory about the extinction of the dinosaurs is that a giant asteroid crashed into Earth, causing a giigantic wave miles high that sweeped across the planet, or if there was no wave, dust would have hung in the air blocking out all sun causing the planet to go into the ice age while the dust settled.
